Ashten Rae Christensen 4-15-2011

After a sleepless night, tossing and turning with excitement, friday morning finally came. We got to the hospital at about 10:30 am, then settled into our delivery room and got started on IV's and pitocin to induce the labor. Then it was a bit of a waiting game :). Dr. Horsley came to break my water at 3pm then they cranked up the pitocin to get the ball rolling. After some painful contractions the anesthesiologist finally got some time to give me my epidural at 5 pm, which felt much different than i remember from the 1st time. Then things started to move along pretty quick, after i got to 6cm dialated I was feeling alot of pressure and pain, baby Ashten wanted out of there! I went from 6cm to 10cm dialated in about 30 minutes, and when my wonderful Dr. arrived it was time to start the show! Only about 5 or 6 big pushes and our beautiful baby girl was born! :) I can't explain the releif a mother feels after hearing her baby cry for the first time, the pain seemed to just magically disappear when they laid her across my belly. I was very impressed with my nurses and everyone who helped out, thank you all! I loved everything (except the pain of course) about this experience, my baby never left my arms the whole time we were in the hospital, it was very special :)! Mommys need that bonding time with their babies, it is so amazing! Baby Ashten was born at 8:02 pm, she was 7lbs and 1oz and was 19.5 inches long. :)!
